PRELEX

PRELEX - Presbyopic Lens Exchange

Would you like to finally ditch glasses?
If you’re over 40 and are experiencing the onset of presbyopia, or more commonly known as the need for reading glasses, you’re not alone.  Everyone experiences it over the age of 40, regardless of how good their prior vision was.

As we age, the lens of our eye become more rigid, and therefore cannot flex as well as before.  This results in the all-too-common ‘squinting,’ and arm lengthening needed to focus on objects up close.  Eventually, you will need reading glasses to see these items clearly.

Fortunately, there now exists a wonderful option that safely and permanently restores your vision at all distances, and effectively eliminates your need for glasses for good.

Called PRELEX, or Presbyopic Lens Exchange (PLE), it is a procedure that is identical to cataract surgery, where the natural lens of your eye is removed and replaced with a special type of ‘premium’ artificial intraocular lens (IOL).

There are a number of advanced IOL lenses, each suited to treat your unique visual condition.  Learn more about the advanced lens options offered at Rocky Mountain Ophthalmology by clicking here.

PRELEX Lens Exchange provides many wonderful benefits, especially when compared to LASIK or other vision correction options for someone in the appropriate age range.  The two biggest benefits being:

  • Reduction or elimination of the need for glasses forever
  • No need for cataract or refractive surgery ever again

Who is a good candidate for PRELEX Lens Exchange?
Anyone over the age of 45 who wears glasses or contacts, and who is experiencing the onset of presbyopia is a candidate.  In some cases people under 40 are eligible if they have high glasses prescriptions or trouble wearing contacts.

The most common candidates are:

  • Patients over the age of 45 who wish to eliminate the need for reading glasses permanently
  • Patients who are experiencing the early onset of cataracts and wish to have surgery before the cataract worsens
  • People under the age of 40 who have extreme farsightedness, and therefore are not candidates for any other vision correction procedures, including LASIK.

No two eyes are exactly alike, and a thorough consultation is necessary to determine your candidacy for a vision correction treatment such as PRELEX Lens Exchange.   Schedule a complimentary examination and consultation today to learn which option is right for you.
