Nearsightedness
What Is Nearsightedness?
Nearsightedness, technically known as myopia, is the most common optical condition in adults worldwide, affecting over 35% of the population. In the nearsighted eye, light from distant objects focuses in front of the retina, not on it; so a blurry image is perceived.
Nearsighted people have trouble seeing things clearly at a distance. So reading a book or a computer screen may not be a challenge, whereas reading street signs or watching tv may.
Options to correct Nearsightedness:
- Prescription glasses or contacts
- iLASIK laser vision correction
- Phackic IOL insertion
- PRELEX refractive lens exchange
iLASIK laser vision correction is a wonderful option for even high levels of nearsightedness. In fact, patients with myopia often make the best laser vision correction candidates, and usually end up with corrected vsiion that is far superior to the normal 20/20 achieved using glasses or contacts.
