About Cataract Surgery

There is only one way to correct cataracts and that is through cataract surgery. Over time, cataract surgery has made significant advancements. Historically, cataract surgery required hospitalization and included a long recovery. The patient was left without a lens and required to wear extremely thick glasses in order to see. Cataract surgery is no longer the cumbersome process it used to be. In fact today, it’s modern and quick. Recovery time is speedy and your vision is greatly improved. In fact, the entire procedure usually takes less than 10 minutes. Vision is restored immediately in most cases; however, vision usually continues to improve in the weeks that follow the procedure.

In today’s cataract surgery, your surgeon uses ultrasonic energy to break up the cataract and remove the lens through a very tiny incision. The new intraocular lens is inserted through the small incision, creating a crystal clear lens and exceptionally clear vision.
